WIT to facilitate transfers from Enniscorthy Vocational College
Posted: Fri, April 30, 2010

Waterford Institute of Technology has strengthened an established agreement with Enniscorthy Vocational College that will facilitate the smooth transfer of those who complete courses at the College to programmes at the Sunday Times Institute of Technology of the Year.

Students from the Vocational College will also complete parts of their further education programmes at the Institute while some who successfully complete courses in Enniscorthy will be able to apply for direct entry to the second year of selected Institute programmes in business, science and the arts.

Dr Derek O’Byrne, Registrar, Waterford Institute of Technology said the Institute has a long-standing relationship with Enniscorthy Vocational College (EVC) having been formal partners since 1995. On completion of their studies, a number of former EVC students have progressed to postgraduate programmes and completed Masters and PhD degrees.

“We are delighted to further develop pathways for students from Enniscorthy Vocational College. The Institute is very popular with students from right across Co Wexford and we are committed to opening-up as many entry routes to programmes at the Institute as possible for all learners in the county. The agreement we are now ratifying formalises and builds on some of the connections formed over the years between the Institute and Enniscorthy Vocational College.

“This partnership provides the Institute with very motivated and focused students who are determined to achieve while Enniscorthy Vocational College is providing a key role in ensuring opportunities for progression from second-level through further and onto higher education.”

Seamus Murphy, Principal, Enniscorthy Vocational College, added: “It is important for this College to provide the widest range of courses possible to our students. It is almost equally important that we build the relationships that allow those who wish to proceed to higher education to get clear credit for what they have achieved at this College. To this end, the tie-in with Waterford Institute of Technology is very beneficial and we look forward to it developing further over time.”
