WIT BA Financial Services students visit to Dáil Éireann
Posted: Tue, May 18, 2010

The 4th year BA Financial Services students visited the Health Insurance Authority in Dublin in March 2010 where they received a presentation on regulation and market developments  from the Authority's CEO, Mr Liam Sloyan. This involved a review of the Authority's submission to an Oireachtas Committee as well as discussions on international experience with respect to private health insurance.

As a mark of our appreciation, the Class Representative Ms Clare Hartley presented Mr Sloyan with a copy of Dr Peter Jordan's work on the Waterford municipal art collection. Afterwards the class moved on to Leinster House where they were hosted by Senator Paudie Coffey. There we attended Senate business which dealt with public sector issues including the air sea rescue service based at Waterford Airport.

We also visited Dáil Éireann and heard An Taoiseach present his new cabinet for approval. Lecturer John Maher observed that it was appropriate for WIT graduates to receive exposure to the country's democratic process and institutions and have a sense of ownership of them as stakeholders, beneficiaries and participants.
