Biography
Henry Shefflin was born in 1979 in Ballyhale, County Kilkenny. He was educated at St Kieran’s College in Kilkenny. During his time there, Shefflin won an All-Ireland Colleges title and established himself as a player of immense talent.
Shefflin attended Waterford Institute of Technology from 1997 to 2002. While studying here, Shefflin played on the college hurling team. The team enjoyed back-to-back Fitzgibbon Cup titles in 1999 and 2000. “Winning back-to-back Fitzgibbon Cups was terrific,” Henry recalls. “All the Universities had done that in the past, but Waterford Institute of Technology had never done it up to then. So that was a real achievement”.
Henry Shefflin graduated from Waterford Institute of Technology in 2002 with a Degree in Business. He currently works with New Holland Finance, a subsidiary of Bank of Ireland Finance.
In 1999 Shefflin made his senior championship debut. Since joining the Kilkenny senior panel he has won four All-Ireland titles in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2006, seven Leinster titles between 1999 and 2006, and four league titles in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006. He also received six All Stars for Kilkenny in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. In 2006 he was selected as the RTE Irish Sports Personality of the Year and was awarded both the Vodafone and Texaco Hurler of the Year in the same year.
