Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) is pleased to announce that Dr. Ruaidhrí Neavyn has been ratified by the Governing Body as the next President of the Institute.
Dr Neavyn has been President of the Institute of Technology Carlow since 2004. Prior to joining IT Carlow, he held several senior management positions at Limerick IT, including Registrar and Head of Development. Dr. Neavyn graduated from DIT in 1988 with a Diploma in Applied Science and has a BSc in Applied Science from TCD. He obtained a PhD in Physical Chemistry from UCD in 1993 and also performed post-doctoral research in the University of California, Irvine.
Speaking today, Dr. Donie Ormonde, WIT Chairman, said that Dr. Neavyn has a proven track record of achievement in the development of higher education.
“Dr. Neavyn joins WIT at an exciting and challenging time in its history, and we look forward to working with him in the development of our next strategic plan and the quest for technological university status.
“As one of the largest institutes of technology, WIT has almost 10,000 students and 900 full-time and part-time academic and support staff across its five campuses in Waterford city. The Institute plays a central role in the economic, cultural, scientific and technological development of the south east”, he said.
Dr. Ormonde expressed his thanks and appreciation to Mr. Tony McFeely, who was appointed Acting President at the Institute earlier this year.
