Overview of INSYTE
INSYTE is an interdisciplinary, cross-school research centre in the field of information systems and organizations. In 2006 INSYTE was one of the largest research groups in the Institute of Technology sector in terms of postgraduate numbers. INSYTE offers a combination of part-time and full-time research programmes and can accommodate international students located overseas. INSYTE research is primarily concerned with making information systems useful and appropriate for modern organizations. INSYTE recognises the close relationship between cultural values, creativity and technology in IT-enabled organisational and social development. Consequently, INSYTE researchers examine a broad range of issues but are primarily concerned with strategies and methods for the effective design and use of information technology. Examples of studies conducted at the centre include:
- Technology Management: Building Leadership and Innovation Capacities
- Strategic Technology, Cultural Values and Envisioning
- Adoption Factors for Control and Automation Technologies
- Technology Management in Developing Countries
- Supply Chain Logistics Systems
- Information Privacy and Security
- Information Systems Engineering Education
The above thematic areas are necessarily overlapping but indicate key domains in which work has been published to date. INSYTE focuses upon generating high quality publishable work and disseminates papers regularly in the leading international journals and conferences. INSYTE works with researchers across the world including the Europe Union, Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Asia, and North America.
This research focuses primarily on cultural and organisational factors associated with the information society and the ways businesses leverage information. We ask nine key research questions:
- How do we measure the core values of organisational culture, and align this with Information Systems strategy?
- What factors influence the successful adoption of IT in organisations in Developing Countries?
- How do we systematically address ethical and other values-driven considerations that arise in a global information society?
- How are supply chain management systems adopted and effectively utilised by modern organisations?
- What factors determine the success or failure of large scale complex information systems projects?
- How should information privacy be managed in the information society?
- Why are information systems insecure in spite of all the system security tools currently available?
- How should information systems development involving multi-cultural, dispersed teams be managed?
- What is truly great technology leadership?
