Postgraduate Diploma / Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning in Further and Higher Education

The Postgraduate Diploma / Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning in Further and Higher Education are flexible modular programmes suited to professionals working in Further and Higher Education.

Programme Aim:

The course aims to provide you with a coherent educational programme for teaching and student support staff in Irish Further and Higher Education sectors enabling you to develop and improve your teaching expertise. It offers you an opportunity to reflect on your professional practice and gain a theoretical and critical perspective on your teaching and student support practices.

Entry Requirements:

An Honours Degree or equivalent and three years teaching experience.  In exceptional circumstances, however if you do not meet the normal entry requirements, you may be considered for admission subject to meeting pre-determined criteria.

Entry Requirements for International Students:

The above entry critera applies to all international students.  Applicants, whose previous study has not been in English, must prove their English language ability with evidence of an IELTS score of 6.5 or ToEFL equivalent.  International students, who do not comply with the English language criteria will be encouraged to complete the year-long International Bridging Studies Course in WIT's School of Education and Professional Development in order to improve their English language competence.

  • Teaching English as a Second Language (10 credits)

  • Research Methods in Education* (10 credits)
  • Dissertation (20 credits)
  • Educational Product (20 credits)
  • Publishable Papers (20 credits)

*Research Methods in Education is a prerequisite of the Dissertation, Educational Product and Publishable Papers modules'. Please Note: Whilst the programme is structured as a coherent training for education professionals, it  is possible for you to take single modules relevant to your needs.  Also Modules are offered subject to viability.

Duration: This programme will be delivered in a full and part-time mode for the academic year on Fridays and Saturdays.

Qualification: Postgraduate Diploma/Master of Arts in Teaching & Learning in Further and Higher Education

Cost: €6300 for Masters (Full-time); €700 per 10 credit module; €4,200 for PG Dip qualification.
