What is Business Studies?

The term 'Business Studies' represents a wide range of business related subjects including Accounting, Economics, Management, Marketing and Human Resource Management. A course in Business Studies provides students with the essential skills and practical knowledge required to facilitate success in any business situation.

What is the Higher Certificate in Business Studies Course?

The Higher Certificate in Business Studies is a flexible 2 year course culminating in a widely recognised and highly regarded qualification. On successful completion of this course students will have gained relevant business skills that they can apply and they will have deepened their understanding of how business operates. The following is a list of the subjects that students will study:

Flexibility and Choice

Successful students are awarded a well-respected qualification after two years and may choose to begin their business career. Alternatively students may transfer to one of the Degree programmes in the School of Business at WIT to further advance their studies.  

Leaving Cert Requirements

Total number of different subjects at grade D or better: 5
Total number at higher level grade C or better (Honours): 0
Required Subjects English or Irish OD3/HD3, and Mathematics OD3

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Higher Certificate in Business Studies will find work in the following areas:

• Trainee management.
• In junior management in any of the main business functions and across all industry and services sectors.
